Garage Door Installation is an excellent way to add value to your home. A new garage door can increase your home’s curb appeal, improve energy efficiency and add a sense of privacy to your space.
Most homeowners prefer a garage door that is easy to operate and is safe for their children, pets and vehicles. They also like the security of knowing that a garage door will automatically open when a keypad is pressed or an automatic opener is engaged.
In addition, most homeowners want their garage doors to look beautiful. They may choose to add windows, patterns, door frames or decorative hardware.
The cost of a new garage door depends on the style and customization options. Before installing a garae door, determine the height and width of your opening. This will help you determine if the door will fit properly. If the opening is narrow or high, it may be necessary to build it in.
STACKING THE DOOR-Center and position the bottom section in your opening, pressing it against the door stop molding. Level it with a shim. Lay the next section in, checking for level each time you affix it to the previous section. Repeat until all sections have been assembled.
SETTING THE TRACKING SECTIONS-19 Place the track brackets over the tracks at the top of the jamb and the bottom of the header. Make sure that the track is vertical and with 1/2″ clearance between it’s inner edge and the door all the way up. Then screw the track to the wall framing. Use 5/16″ x 1-1/2″ lags to secure the track brackets to the wall.
CONNECTING THE TRACK SECTIONS-19 Connect the vertical track sections to horizontal sections with curved corner tracks. The flange of each track should be even with the flag bracket and pointing away from the door. The lag screws should be tightened accordingly to hold the track securely in place.
CLAMPING THE BOTTOM OF THE BUSHES-19 Clamp the bottom of each guide to the top of the jambs, using locking pliers if required, to ensure that the guides will remain rigid while you lift them evenly. Remove the pliers when the guide is secured to the jambs.
LOCKING THE GARAGE DOOR-Using the lifting cable, attach one end to a peg at the bottom of the door track and the other to the top of the garage door frame. With an assistant, raise the door until you can see the cable running alongside it.
REPLACE HARDWARE-19 Replace any loose or broken hardware on the garage door. This includes hinges, rollers, springs and opener hardware. If you have an automatic opener, replace the safety reverse feature as well.
If you have a garage door that has built-in infrared sensors, test the sensor to ensure it is working correctly. If it does not, the sensor must be repositioned.
